Hi, I'm Rishi Sharma.
I grew up on a warehouse floor, in a building that smelled like cardboard and cut coax.
My parents built a video surveillance company. I worked in it from the warehouse up and eventually ran it. We sold it, and I spent a few years on the other side of the table at a venture fund before deciding I missed the trucks and the technicians more than I liked the spreadsheets.
Now I buy security companies instead of building one from zero.
I run NextGen Live Security. We acquire founder-led businesses in live video monitoring, systems integration, access control, alarm, and fire and life safety, and then we keep them. No five-year clock, no new name on the truck.
I also write Mindful Capital, a weekly newsletter on buying businesses, the mental models I use to make decisions, and where AI actually earns its keep in a small company. Around 1,200 people read it. It is free.
Outside of work I cook, and I plan most of my travel around where I want to eat. I read biographies, which is a slow way of collecting other people's mistakes. And I follow UCLA and the Lakers, which lately is less a hobby than a test of character.
